Join us in Cupar for Saturday Kids’ Art Club focused on African and African Diaspora artists. These sessions will be run by artist Sofia Sefraoui (Cheeky Monkey Arts Club), with creative activities inspired by specific artists. These will include Romauld Hazoumé (Benin), Silvana Mendes (Brazil), Kara Walker (USA), Lubaina Himid (UK) and the modern artists of the Casablanca art school.

17/10/26: Lubaina Himid – Black British Artist – Painting and Installations – b.1954 – Zanzibar now Tanzania
Lubaina Himid is a Turner Prize–winning artist whose work focuses on Black creativity, identity, labour, and visibility. She emerged as a key figure in the Black British Arts Movement of the 1980s and continues to shape contemporary art through painting, installation, and curatorial practice.
In her work, she reimagines historical scenes by placing Black figures at the centre and highlights the invisible labour of women and manual workers. Her paintings and installations are very vibrant, she uses patterns to explore the concepts of belonging, community and power.
For this workshop, your child will design, paint and decorate large articulated cardboard cut outs of different characters in action (playing music, carrying a tray of food, watering a plant etc…). The activity encourages storytelling, colour exploration, and thinking about the people who make our world work.
