TRANSATLANTIC SLAVERY: LEARNING RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS

  • Online via MS Teams (map)

Aimed at both primary and secondary school teachers, this online session will introduce two free online resources available for pupils – an interactive walking tour through Glasgow’s Merchant City and a classroom presentation. Developed by Glasgow Museums’ education department, these resources can be used to teach the topic of transatlantic slavery in an anti-racist and less Eurocentric way, drawing on original museum objects and archival material. Including activities that focus more on the enslaved Black people as opposed to the enslavers and their wealth, pupils are encouraged to think critically about how to deal with the city’s past and how issues such as reparations should be approached.
