Legendary music producer Quincy Jones teamed up with Charlie Smalls to bring the 1974 Broadway musical The Wiz to the big screen, with the help of an all-star African American cast.
Directed by Academy Award nominee Sidney Lumet, this lively retelling of The Wizard of Oz stars Diana Ross as Dorothy, while music superstar Michael Jackson plays the Scarecrow. A lavish, impressive musical with catchy songs and elaborate sets, The Wiz still stands as a cult classic with a dedicated following.
The film will be introduced by Michelah Desnai, an artist, musician, and playwright. She is currently completing a Phd of Philosophy in Film and Theatre at the University of Glasgow, studying the Metaphysical Dilemma of the Black Body in Performance.
This film will be screened with descriptive subtitles (also know as closed captions) and there will be live captions for the introduction and outro.
