Join us in Cupar for Saturday Kids’ Art Club focused on African and African Diaspora artists. These sessions will be run by artist Sofia Sefraoui (Cheeky Monkey Arts Club), with creative activities inspired by specific artists. These will include Romauld Hazoumé (Benin), Silvana Mendes (Brazil), Kara Walker (USA), Lubaina Himid (UK) and the modern artists of the Casablanca art school.

24/10/26: Silvana Mendes – Black Brazilian Artist – Collage – b. 1991- Brazil
Silvana Mendes is a visual artist whose work focuses on reimagining the representation of Black people in historical and contemporary images. She works with photography, digital collage, painting, and public art techniques like lambe-lambe (street posters). Her research challenges colonial visual traditions and highlights Black ancestry, identity, and dignity.
A central part of her practice is the series Afetocolagens Afectivecollages), where she takes colonial-era photographs—often of unnamed Black individuals—and transforms them into vibrant, imaginative scenes that restore their presence, beauty, and agency.
For this workshop, your child will make a large scale collage, using images of people, places, plants and animals. They will develop their creative thinking and analysis and association skills.
