Join us in Cupar for Saturday Kids’ Art Club focused on African and African Diaspora artists. These sessions will be run by artist Sofia Sefraoui (Cheeky Monkey Arts Club), with creative activities inspired by specific artists. These will include Romauld Hazoumé (Benin), Silvana Mendes (Brazil), Kara Walker (USA), Lubaina Himid (UK) and the modern artists of the Casablanca art school.

03/10/26: Romuald Hazoumé – Beninese Artist – Sculptures and Installations b. 1962 -Benin
Romuald Hazoumé is a Beninese artist who transforms recycled objects—especially plastic jerrycans—into masks, sculptures, and large installations that teach us about history, courage, justice and creativity. His work speaks to adults through political messages and to children through imagination, colour, and playfulness.
Through his work Hazoumé shows us, how waste can become beauty. His masks are based on Yoruba’s amsk making traditions and therefore connect connect children to African stories and traditions. His work discusses the environment, poverty and colonialism and helps us understand the importance of fairness and human rights.
Based on Hazoumé canister portraits and using recyclable materials such as plastic bottles and cardboard, your child will imagine and build a large sculpture representing a person. Your child will use 3D thinking skills, as well as visual learning and building skills.
