This year's National African & Black Association seminar for Black History Month will address a fundamental question:
“Do ethnic minorities in Scotland have a say?” and, more importantly: “Are ethnic minority communities being heard and are they being listened to?”
The seminar will bring together representatives from ethnic minority communities, government, local authorities, public services, business, education, health, justice, sport, the third sector, community organisations and political life to examine whether ethnic minority people in Scotland have meaningful opportunities to influence the decisions, policies and services that affect their lives.
We believe this conversation must go beyond consultation.
Being invited to express an opinion is important, but genuine participation must also involve voice, representation, influence, power and accountability.
